December 9 - The Way, The Truth and the Life
Scripture
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
John 14:1–6 (NLT)
Jesus speaks these words at a moment when the disciples are afraid and unsure of the future. He tells them not to let their hearts be troubled, not because their circumstances will suddenly become easy, but because He is trustworthy. This is a reminder we all need. When life feels unstable or overwhelming, Jesus invites us to bring our fears to Him and trust His steady presence.
He also lifts their eyes beyond what they can see. Jesus tells them He is preparing a place for them in His Father’s house and that one day He will come and bring them home. That promise still stands for us. Whatever you are walking through right now, your story does not end in fear or uncertainty. Jesus is preparing a future for His people, and He will not forget a single one of His promises.
When Thomas admits he does not know the way, Jesus makes one of the clearest declarations in all of Scripture: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He is not pointing us toward a path. He is the path. Thomas à Kempis once wrote, “Without the way, there is no going. Without the truth, there is no knowing. Without the life, there is no living.” Jesus is all of this for us. Everything we need for today, and everything we need for eternity, is found in Him.*
So whatever is troubling your heart today, take a moment to rest in this truth. He sees you. He loves you. And He will bring you safely through whatever you are facing. Hold onto His promises, and let His truth anchor your hope.
Reflection
1. What is weighing on your heart today, and how is Jesus inviting you to trust Him with it?
2. How does the promise of a home with Jesus give you strength for what you are facing right now?
3. What is one way you can lean into Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life this week?
Prayer
Thank Jesus for being the way, the truth, and the life. Ask Him to calm your heart, deepen your trust in His promises, and help you walk closely with Him today.
