January 14: Represent
Scripture
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
-2 Cor. 5:19-21
Paul reminds us of something foundational about who we are as followers of Jesus. Those who belong to Christ are His ambassadors. This is not a role we occasionally step into or a task reserved for a few, it is our identity. God has chosen to make His appeal to the world through ordinary people whose lives have been transformed by grace. The way we live, love, forgive, and speak gives others a glimpse of what God is like.
That truth should both humble and challenge us. As ambassadors, we represent someone far greater than ourselves. Our lives become living testimonies of God’s character. Brennan Manning once observed, “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle.” His words are sobering, but they remind us that representation matters. The world is watching, not for perfection, but for authenticity shaped by grace.
At the heart of this calling is the message we carry. In Christ, God is no longer counting people’s sins against them. That is staggering news. The weight of sin, guilt, and separation has been dealt with at the cross. Jesus, who never sinned, willingly became the offering for our sin so that we could be made right with God. Reconciliation is not something we achieve, it is something we receive.
And now that message has been entrusted to us. As ambassadors of Christ, we are invited to speak with both truth and compassion, echoing God’s own plea: “Come back to God.” This is not a message of condemnation, but of hope. We carry good news into a weary world, inviting others to experience the forgiveness, freedom, and new life that have already been made available in Christ.
Reflection
1. What does it mean for you personally to live each day as an ambassador of Christ rather than a private believer?
2. In what ways might God be inviting you to reflect His grace more clearly through your words, actions, or attitudes?
3. How does knowing that God is no longer counting people’s sins against them shape the way you relate to others?
Prayer
Thank God for reconciling you to Himself through Christ. Ask Him to help you represent Jesus with humility, integrity, and compassion. Pray for the courage to share the good news with both your words and your life, trusting that God is making His appeal through you.
